Over the Hari Raya weekend, the MORE working adults braved the balik kampung traffic heading north for fun, food and fellowship at the Illuminate working adult’s camp. Working adults from Puchong, Damansara and Penang came together in Ipoh, home to the famous bean sprouts chicken, excited to see, hear and taste what’s in store.
The anchoring verse for the Illuminate camp was Proverbs 4:18 – The path of the righteous is like the morning sun, shining ever brighter till the full light of day. Indeed every working adult God placed in the marketplace was destined to shine, not momentarily, but ceaselessly.
Guest speaker, Rachel Ong is a perfect role model who has live up to Proverbs 4:18 and shines for God in all that she does. From her serving in ministry to the founding of the youth development organization, Trybe, and start up of Rohei Corporations, we could see how God was glorified every step of her way as she chose to love God with all her heart, soul and might and to be an obedient child.
In one the sessions, the working adults were reminded of the importance to excel and give our best in the things that we do, so people could see the great God that we worship. The 4 areas of excellence that was talked about are moral excellence, operational excellence, spiritual excellence and character excellence. We were encouraged to not just to be a mere survivors or appliers Christians at work, but strive to be a warriors and transformers of marketplace.
Rachel also addressed the causes of stress amongst working adults and a common workplace issue – gossip.
In the 3 days camp, the working adults were fed not only with the endless list of food Ipoh has to offer, but were truly blessed by Rachel’s sharing and wisdom. Many of us made new friends and bonded over supper, board games, and team-building exercises. It was indeed a time of discovering God, a life with purpose and a life with others! The organizing committee who worked hard putting the camp together deserve a pat on the back for job well done.
We look forward to the next working adult’s camp!
